Help This Muslim Woman Working Tirelessly For Abandoned And Injured Cows In Ludhiana

Seventeen years ago, Salma’s life took an unexpected turn when she rescued an injured cow outside her Ludhiana, Punjab home. She didn’t know it then, but that act of kindness was the start of a journey that would span nearly two decades. Despite being a Muslim woman and facing taunts and discouraging remarks from her neighbors, Salma remained focused on one thing: caring for the cows in need.

Today, Salma single-handedly looks after more than 35 cows, each with its own unique story 

Recently, she rescued a cow that had fallen into a gutter and was crying out for help. Time is crucial for these rescues and so Salma sprung into action, coordinated with others to bring the innocent cow to safety.

“I don’t see their pain as different from ours. They can’t speak, but they feel everything, and it’s my duty to be their voice,” Salma says. 

Salma's journey has been filled with challenges. People often questioned why she, a Muslim woman, would rescue cows or even risk her life for animals considered sacred by another faith. But Salma never wavered.

"Religion doesn't matter here," she says. "This gaushala is a safe home for animals who have been abandoned or hurt in accidents. I care for them like they are my own children and do everything I can to give them a safe, happy home."

However, running the gaushala has not been easy and Salma needs your support

The gaushala, built in 2007, is now in desperate need of repair. Its crumbling condition is making it harder to maintain a clean, healthy environment, leading to issues like ticks and infections. The cows need your help.

Salma urgently needs construction materials to rebuild the shelter, as well as fodder and medicines to keep her cows safe and healthy. Her dream is to help even more cows, but she can’t do it alone. About the NGO: Salma started her Muslim Gaushala in 2007 in Ludhiana, Punjab, and since then, there’s been no turning back. Today, she cares for 35 cows, making sure they receive the nutritious food and medicine they need. She works tirelessly, day and night, to give them the life they deserve, despite facing countless challenges. To Salma, these cows are more than just animals—they are like her own children, and she does everything she can to keep them safe and healthy.
